Terms of Use
The agreement between you and Sapiens Bench. Using the site means accepting it.
What this is
Sapiens Bench is a free collection of browser-based cognitive tasks — reaction time, sustained attention, response inhibition, working memory — together with a record of how your own scores move over time. It is offered as an educational and self-tracking tool, run by an individual rather than a company or an institution.
It is not a medical service
This is the most important term here. The tasks are adapted from published research paradigms, but this site is not a medical device, a diagnostic instrument, or a clinical assessment, and it has not been validated as one. A score is not a diagnosis of ADHD or of any other condition, and neither a good score nor a bad one tells you whether to start, stop or change a treatment.
Nothing here is medical advice. Decisions about your health belong with a qualified clinician who knows your situation. If you are worried about your attention, memory or concentration, talk to one — and do not delay doing so because of something you read on this site.
What the numbers are worth
A browser is not a laboratory. Timing accuracy depends on your device, your display’s refresh rate, your input hardware and whatever else the machine is doing, and results are affected by sleep, caffeine, mood, practice with the task and how seriously you took the run. Treat the figures as a rough signal about yourself over time, not as a precise measurement, and be especially careful about comparing them to anyone else’s.
Accounts and anonymous play
You can use the site without an account; results are then tied to a cookie in your browser, and clearing it makes them unreachable — to you as well as to everyone else. If you sign in with Google, you are responsible for the security of that Google account, since access to it is access to your history here. Signing in moves anything already played in that browser onto the account.
Your data
What is stored, why, and how to have it deleted is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms. In short: your results are yours, you can delete them, and they are not sold.
Result pages you share via a /s/<token> link are readable by anyone holding that link. Share deliberately.
Using the site fairly
Please do not:
- attempt to break, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the site, its database, or other people’s results
- run automated scripts against it, whether to scrape it or to manufacture results
- present its output as a clinical assessment, or resell it as one, to anybody
Access may be withdrawn if the site is being abused in these ways. The code and content of the site remain the operator’s; your own results remain yours.
Availability, and no warranty
The site is free and provided “as is”. There is no uptime commitment, no promise that a task, a score or the site itself will still be here tomorrow, and no guarantee that stored data cannot be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose.
Limits of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site or from reliance on its output, including any health decision taken on the strength of a score. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — and nothing here affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the operator is resident, without prejudice to any protection the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence gives you.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the bottom of the page tracks when. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the new version. Questions go to privacy@sapiens-bench.athecoder.com.
